Tip of the Week # 2

Hello Women of the World!

Do yourself a favor. Take a moment, take a huge breath and stop whatever you're doing. Many of us are constantly on-the-run, doing a million things at once, eventually working ourselves into a stressing frenzy.

As Women of the World and Women on the Go, we know that many people depend on us to be alert and at the top of our game. But how can we rise to the occasion if we're weighed down by stress?

Our Tip of the Week comes from the incomparable Mimi Donaldson, CO-Author of "Bless Your Stress: It Means You're Still Alive!"

If you find yourself an unwitting player in the Stress Olympics, disqualify yourself. Think of this audacious move as taking of the track shoes and putting on your fuzzy slippers. Now that you're no longer in the race, maybe you'll appreciate these suggestions:

  • Every day, spend a few minutes decompressing instead of obsessing over how busy or stressed you are.
  • Don't let others taunt you into competitive comparisons of stress burdens or busyness.
  • Focus on what's right in your life instead of keeping track off the frustrations or irritations.
  • Give yourself permission to learn that saying "no" to others is a way of saying "yes" to yourself.
  • Block out sections of your calender for "self" time and stick to it.
  • When asked to compromise that time, say you have a commitment. No one needs to know it's just for you.
  • Bless yourself whenever you ease out of the fast lane, even if it's only for a lap or two.

So the next time you find yourself letting the stress games begin, remember that you're not your best you, unless you're stressless.

'Tacticts' panelists provide upbeat advice in a down economy

Tactics to Triumph in Tough Times sparked the dialogue we all need to hear: a downturn in the economy is an uptick for opportunity.

Dr.Sandy Goldberg, Mimi Donaldson, Ann Farrell and the remarkable moderator Noeleen McGrath all shared thoughts, ideas and bullet points for the 60 professional women and a few good men who attended. "The energy in the room was invigorating and the speakers were phenomenal" exclaimed Jessica Burnett, Marketing Manager of Directions. The audience weighed in, answering the following questions: "Why is it important for women to expand their outreach globally?" and "Why we do need tactics to succeed in this uncertain economic climate?"
